Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their own car. Guests sit at a series of images called "mood stations" and pick a set of photos ranging from picturesque landscapes to sporting events that can inspire them to design their own. Every time a choice is made, the pattern that emerges reveals the model preference for color, style and design for the personalized Bentley.

The resulting configuration is stored on individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys that are then presented to guests in a custom-made key case. Keys can also be equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that illuminate the door's opening path with the owner's name and/or emblem when they arrive at the vehicle.

Bentley says it takes roughly 500 man-hours to craft and put together the typical Mulsanne. The unwillingness to embrace modern technology is the primary factor to this time-consuming effort. Instead of employing a machine for spacers to the perfectly matched leather seats workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. And rather than using the car's built-in sensors to guide it into perpendicular and parallel parking spaces the drivers must do it by hand.

During the event, Bentley presented its Mulliner personalization capabilities using one of a kind of the Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays tribute to founder William Osler Bentley. The limited-edition cars come with one key that features a slice of the 1930 8 Litre's crankshaft.
